Lasting appeal of China

Less than a month ago, China was that far away place which my mind could not fully picture. I surely knew a lot of things about China but my curiosity was never satisfied by the second-hand narrated stories. I have to admit that even though I was standing in Casablanca's airport, I could not believe that I am finally going to set foot on a land which has one of the oldest cultures in the history of mankind. Iremembered Ibn Battuta –the tangerine traveler who made this journey hundreds of years ago. Later on, I marveled at the fact that a lot of things mentioned by Ibn Battuta in hisRihla about China were still unchanged.

I always looked at the Chinese culture with awe. My personal library is full of books about traditional Chinese folklore and folktales. I find the similarities between the Moroccan and Chinese cultures very striking. The two cultures share a great respect for elders. Both cultures do also value their cultural heritages and recognize the importance of respect as well as the importance of humbling oneself. The certainty that life smiles in the face of those who do good and cherish their parents exists in both cultures as well. I was reminded of these similarities as I heard Dr. Xu Jingkun’s interesting lecture in which he talked about these values.

China is beautifully unique! This is the thought that I had in mind as we were wandering the streets of Nanchang, as we were visiting the historical sites, as we were learning how porcelain is made in Jingdezhen, and as we were marveling at the beauty of Lushan Mountain. I am one of those people who are fond of details. In Nanchang, I noticed how streets were full of paintings of beautiful sceneries with the purpose of hiding the metallic color of every ‘structure’ which could scar the beautiful face of the city. In Jingdezhen, I noticed that all the street lights were made of porcelain. It warmed my heart to see a city which takes pride in its own history and heritage to the extent of decorating the street lights in a creative manner which reminds everyone –in addition to the newcomers- of what the city is famous for.

Seven hundred years ago, Ibn Battuta said in his travel log that China’s porcelains are “the finest of all makes of pottery”, and that “The Chinese are of all peoples the most skillful in crafts and attain the greatest perfection in them.” We were able to see that for ourselves as we were visiting the Porcelain Museum inJingdezhen. Every piece in the museum was a masterpiece in its own right!

Meeting the president of the University for the second time in Jingdezhen was an honor and watching the ceramics master Jan Shan Liu realizing his masterpieces was a great pleasure. Learning how to make pottery and draw on ceramics in that place was a therapy for the soul.

The historical sites that we visited such as the Forbidden City and the Pavilion of Prince Teng were breathtakingly beautiful. The Chinese architecture harmonizes with nature and makes one feel at peace. It was raining when we went to the Pavilion and I remember feeling very peaceful as I closed my eyes while listening to the sound of the rain and then opening them to the sight of the whole city from the highest floor of the Pavilion.

In both Nanchang and Jingdezhen, I used to stop to look at people’s faces very often. I have a deep certitude that people are the same in every corner of the world. The features and tongues might differ but they are all the same at heart. As I contemplated the faces I could see that the grandmothers looked so kind and generous as grandmothers look in every part of the world. The sight of them as they played with their grandchildren was a familiar sight which never failed to put a smile on my face. Mothers and fathers with their children did often ask them to greet us with their little hands and I could sense that I was welcome in China at the sight of the little hands greeting us as the little faces radiate a smile. I concluded after the few days spent at Nanchang and Jingdezhen that Chinese people are kind in nature and surely very generous. Wherever we went, be it a shop, a market, or a restaurant; people used to greet us very warmly. I could see the sincere feeling of joy in their faces as we greeted them back with the few words and simple sentences we learned in Chinese. We were more than once gifted something, given a reduction in the price of our purchases, or even offered an extra cup of juice in addition to our order. When we were in Nanchang, an overwhelmingly kind and generous young woman whom we stopped just to ask for directions spent almost two hours with me and my group of friends in an attempt to help us find an electronics store, treated us to ice-cream, showed us the place where she works and asked us to call her if we needed anything.

In Nanchang I found a new motivation to learn Chinese. I wanted to learn the language to talk to the people, thank them properly, and show my gratitude. I also dreamed of the day in which I will be able to respond to my professors in Chinese or hold a conversation with the amazing Chinese students who were very helpful, kind, and welcoming.

It would not have been possible for us to have the amazing experiences that we had, meet the kind people that we met, or get the chance to see and admire a beautiful country such as China without the help and guidance received from the university administrators and staffs who welcomed us with all warmth, treated us as any guests would like to be treated, and granted us the privilege and honor of being closely introduced to the Chinese culture. First and foremost, I would like to thank the President Mr. Zuo Heping and the Vice president Mr. Xu Jingkun for their kindness and hospitality. I am also honored to thank the director of the Confucius Institute Mr. Tu Yuehua for his constant help and guidance. I cannot as well fully express my gratitude to the vice director Mr. Zhou Wenfeng, director Huang Jiaozhen, and professor Li Ming for their generosity, guidance, and tireless efforts in responding to the students’ needs. My gratitude also to the amazing Ms. Wang Mingying, the kind Ms. Wan Haozhi, and the professors Li Hongjie and Yang Xianrong for their consistent help and admirable patience.

My SummerCamp

It was one of the best decision in my life that I made when I decided to enroll in Confucius Institute of Tetuan. It was the because it opens the gates for me to a culture that has beenfascinating me since a long time, the chinese culture. And the biggestsurprise was the Summer Camporganized by theScience andTechnology Normal University Of Jiangxi.

It was amazing that feeling I had came the aircraft has landed in Beijing airport, everything seems different, the air,the culture, the people andspecially the way chinese people look at us,it was a lack full of communication and discover, and it wasobvious that we had the same feelings.Ou first step of the adventure was theForbidden city,a wonderful placeview of chinese discovery, thearchitecture theme is soinspiring and simple look you can feel that its real being to you and every Palace tells you its story.

After the visit we took the train to Nanchang, this train travel experience warmly, was the greatest come,it all cause us the discover that chinese are a very warm and welcoming people,we learned a lotabsent chinesedairy habits, and we made a lot of friends during the 12 hours of travel.

We arrived to Nanchang in the morning,we took the bus to Jiangxi University where the university stuff starting from the vice president to the students, were waiting for us.It was very warm, welcome and we were happy while the welcoming speech they give.

During the period we spend in Nanchang, learned that we should never judge a place from what others tell you,I was very happy by the big diversity of places that could be discovered, and during the same period we had the chance to get closer to ourteachers and chinese friends specially Mr.yang and Miss Li,I’ve never seen such a kind, pure and lovely person like her.

We meet after 9 days to Jingdezhen, and in the ceramic museum,we learned how to make China cups, and it took three days to make a beautiful China.

Obviously,in China,if the phenomenon ofLu shan is not seen clearly,it can't be a complete journey.Because in this place, every Angle has its own characteristics.I'm glad I've been to the Great Wall.

We returned toNanchang, full of vitality and joy, today is the closing ceremony.

After this experience,I have confirmed a lot of things, and I will come back to China again, because we just finished the experience, and it is not the end of the journey.

After the greatexperience I’m sure a lot thing,I’ll every thing to come back to China because simply I leaved the hale experience and leaved everyone.

AJourney toWonderFond

“A journey to wonder fond”,an expression which genuinely unveils. The core of my experience as a university student of a very young age who was granted a special privilege which is being enrolled ins such a remarkable summer school program in Jiangxi University.

Ever since our arrive to Casablenca’ s airport, leching of excitement, enthusiasm and controlled my mind, for I was longing for wishing a country which I have always been extremely curious about; there’s culture, food, people and history were quire reputable on an international level. Thus, after taking two planes to arrive to Beijing,a long pashing journey in the pond of a glorious history, spicy food and hospitable chinese began.

The first place which we set for in was Confucius Institutes headquarter (HANBAN)in Beijing.there in,we discovered a wide range of valuable cultural relic which were deeply rooted in the country’s history.some items were vases, traditional chinese garments musical instruments. . .

During the same day,we were accompanied by such an out standing guide named Ridvan to visit the forbidden city which was a historical monument witnessing the breathing raising beauty of the chinese architectures as well as the prosperous life of the chinese royal family.Thousand years ago.The journey from Beijing to Nanchang on a train in which were supposed to sleep was quite a peculiar experience at first, for I never took a train in which I had to sleep all the way round. However, once the train moved, the natural landscapes and the kindness of the chinese people which happened to be in the same room as mine turned the so called “different experience” into a “one of a kind experience.” among the many special features which is the genuine kindness of the chinese people;wherever and whenever I went, people I cameacross never hesitated to share their happiness about my visit to their country,a fact which make me feel like I were home.

After arriving to Nanchang,we were hosted in the University campus in Nanchang; the president, the vice president and other teachers welcomed us warm-hearted.

Then,we went to visit such an amazing unique pavilion which is prince Teng’s pavilion ; each painting and seems like a story which most of us failed to know;the help of the guide happened to be fruitful indeed.had an e

I t is undeniable that we had an extensive number of chinese lessons in the university campus with two teachers who were never reluctant to help us grasp the lesson successfully.in addition to this, many parallel achieves book place,we learn Kongfu, sang traditional chinese songs, contributed to workshops with kind-hearted university students who helped us learn calligraphy,paper-cut,chinese knot . . .and were cheerful about it.Furthermore we had the chance to learn Tai ji,which is formed of many move.even though seem trivial are extremely challenging.

The teacher of the university’s vice president on a chinese speech which conclude many meaning such an the importance of family in one’s life and the necessary of looking after one’s parents just like they look one as a child had a specially of parents in one’s life,a verse in our holy Quranic says:”Oh say Allah bestow your mercy on them as they raised me when I was young.”The following days revolved around a teacher from a professional photographer who displayed a remarkable dise of the old side and the new side of the wonderful city.

The last day spent in Nanchang were dedicated to savour chinese tea which its three kinds, green white and red and to visiting Wanda Mall in order to give a chance to student’s to buy what they need.

Our final stop was Jingdezhen which was a natural element in the province of Jiangxi that one can not compromise visiting. The green lands, the fresh air,and the mild weather were sufficient for me to get attached to that place. After visiting Chuangku arts centre in Jingdezhen we have experienced pottery and Ceramics making, painting on porcelain bottle plate and fresh-made noodles;an experience to remember dater on,we received our masterpieces from the students of the arts center who were extremely generous and utterly helpful.

To sum up my experience in Jiangxi’s province,I must say that words are not enough to describe the impact of such a journey on me.My conception of the chinese culture as a whole and the chinese people specifically passion, for I have seen what I never dream of before;I have raised food than once seemed and different but turned our to be delicious and special; I have remark improved my level in chinese language;O mingled with a kind-hearted hospitality popular, climbed Lu-shan’s landscape;wondered in Nanchang’s streets, and saw Nanchang’s green tee.I am indebted to all those who contributed to hosting me in this one of a kind program and I must say that I am certainly and undoubtedly that I will improve my level in chinese language further and I will visit this country and especially the province once again.

Taste of China

The trip begins when I decided to learn Chinese language; I have always wanted to learn it.So I studied it hard, and the “Confucius institute in university Abdelmalek Essaadi” gives me the opportunity to visit China.

We have arrived at Beijing Airport in June 28th, the road between the Airport and the hotel was my first time to see life in China. The next day we visited the Hanban building, where they welcomed us and showed us a part from the Chinese culture, we have also been to the Forbidden City in Beijing. At 8:00 PM, we took the train to Nanchang city, the capital of Jiangxi province. At the train, it was a good experience to meet new Chinese friends and have their contacts.

We arrived after 12hours in train, the breakfast was dumplings. After that we went to Nanchang University of science and technology, and I have enjoyed the opening ceremony. In the afternoon, we went to Prince Teng’s pavilion wich represent the traditional buildings of China, inside it, there was a museum wich contain interesting things to see. The day after, we had our first lesson with Yu Keli teacher, the lesson was a revision of all what we earned in Morocco. In the other lessons, we learned new Chinese vocabulary expressions , so the most important thing to be in China is to practice my Chinese language to improve my accent and learn new vocabulary. We had also oral lessons with He Jianbo teacher where we practiced what we learned, I really liked the oral lessons in the university, we had also do activities such as calligraphy wich most of the students liked it. And the Chinese music and also the Chinese sport “Kung Fu” we also had a cultural lesson to see photography of Chinese nature and sightseeing. We tried to make tea in the traditional way, it’s taste is really different than the Moroccan tea.

The day before going to Jingdezhen, we had a conference about the evolution of porcelain art; it’s really interesting to give us an idea about every place wich we’re planning to visit. I liked the manufacture of porcelain and decorations. We have also visited Lushan mountain wich was the perfect place of sightseeing in China, the weather was also great, I wished if we spend more time there. We are planning to climb the great wall at the end of this summer camp.

So that I will improve my Chinese in way to come again pursuit of my studies in China.

Memory in China

During my trip to China, as pocket of the Chinese summer camp program organized by Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University. I have experienced many things i couldn't have experienced before.

After we arrived to Beijing on the 28th of June we went many activities. The first one we visit to the confuse institute head quarters(Hanbar), where we had the chance to see the musuene in there. Next we fook the night train to Nanchang for 12 hours, this was a completly new experience. Then we arrive to Nanchang the capital city of Jiangxi province, we were welcomed by the members of the administration and some students of the university. Later on we went to the Pavilion of prince Teng(Teng wang Pavilion), one of the three greatest Towers in southern China, a 9 floors Pavilion which represent the chinese architectonic style.

On the 2nd of July we started our first chinese class with Miss. Yu keli and Mr. He Jianbo, where we learned the basics to starting a chinese conversation(greetings, day and time, fruit and vegetable...),besides the chinese classes we had a chance to learn some Kongfu Techies, as well as practicing a chinese Folk song( Mo Li Hua) with Miss. Zhang Hongying. In addition we met the professor Zhang Huanrong, a famous vibraphone. He showed us some of his work, specially photos of the Jiangxi province. Another interesting activity was the chinese calligraphy. I learned how to use the brush to write different chinese characters with the help of the university students, we also exchange Wechat accounts and become good friends after, one of the students, who’s really good at calligraphy, wrote my chinese name.

To experiences the chinese Tea ceremony, we had to visit a Tea company called“xiyuan”, where we tasted the different types of chinese tea, as well as going through the preparation processes by our self, which is completely different from what we usually do back in my country. I bought some gifts for my family there, including White Tea.

In Jingdezhen, we discovered a new thing, which is making drawing ceramics. I have made myself five ceramics, but unfortunately two of them broke. However, it was a good experience, where I’ve discovered a new me.

Another wonderful place we went to was“Lu shan”, a beautiful mountain, with many cool places. The artificial lake, the two waterfalls that we visited. It was the best part of the summer camp and i wish I could spend more time there.

Now that we are back in Nanchang we are going to see a different side of the city, the new zone area.

Over all it was a good experience, we had the possibility to see place I wouldn’t have seen before. I have meet new people, making new friends and grow as a person.

My foot in China

A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step, Lao Tzu says. Jun 27, 2017, a first step was made toward a new experience, a new adventure, a new journey! Leaving the motherland at 13:45, flying for around 18 hours, we finally arrived to Beijing evening time. The first place we visited the next day was, of course, no other than the Confucius Institute, with a warm welcome, we were invited in, and since then learning more about the Chinese culture never stopped. After lunch, the next station was the Forbidden City, the imperial palace from the Ming dynasty. From the largest gate to the imperial garden, it was fascinating, the doors, the architecture, the hidden secrets of this beautiful place and everything. Same day night, around 20.00, we took the train to Nanchang. The ride lasted twelve hours. Meeting many people in there, and language was never a problem. As this was –personally- the first time “sitting” and “chatting” with a Chinese person with nothing but CHINESE language, I realized that language was never a barrier, and that people have just forgotten how to listen, what is more is that there are more ways to communicate other than common talk languages. Once in Nanchang, the real program begun after having breakfast *Dumpling, we directly went to Nanchang’s university: “Jiangxi’s Normal Science and Technology University”. The Dean herself with other administration members welcomed us in. A meeting was held to introduce each other, and get a clue about the stay program. Later on afternoon, we visited Wang Teng Pavilion, the only existing royal architecture in southern China.

The next day was given to us to rest and get somehow over the jetlag! Directly after, Chinese classes started morning times and workshops the afternoon hours. We had the chance to test the famous Chinese tea and learn about its customs. We also learned folkloric songs, were introduced to both kongfu and Taichi, learned the calligraphy and hand designs - the Chinese Knot- , and other traditional crafts.

The stay in Nanchang lasted around 12 days, and then the next station was Jingdezhen, the porcelain city. Visiting the porcelain workshop three days and being taught by well-known and respected professors, we finally learned how to make, draw and even paint on the porcelain, and WE were able to MAKE our own objects. Of course, we visited the Jingdezhen Porcelain Museum where many porcelain objects are laid from different dynasties and times.

With our final self-made porcelain objects, we left to Lu Mountain –known as Lu Shan- . Few words are not enough to describe it beauty, its sceneries, the waterfalls. It was so huge that we can never say from where it begins or where it ends, around 1400M tall and so rich with historical, natural, political sceneries. We walked for 12 km without counting the bus rides and I believe it was not even thirty percent of it.

Now, that the journey is coming to an end, we went back to Nanchang - the new city- . In few days, we are leaving to our country, but I am quite sure we are visiting the promised place –the Great Wall-. Then, directly from there we are hiding to the airport and that would be a “SEE YOU SOON” China, It was nice being here, it was nice being able to explore you, to know more about you, about your culture. Also, It was nice meeting your amazing, friendly and awesome people, especially all the stuff that accompanied us, -teachers, the Dean, the president, Vice President, Ms Li, Mr. Yang , Ms. Jessica {write your name here haha}, - they accompanied us in every single step we took. Ms. Li doing more than what she was assigned for. She was more like a caring mother, a dear sister, a best friend to each one of us. I believe they worked so hard to provide us with everything and make us enjoy our stay to the fullest. Even thought there were some complains from my friends, I believe that it is because they could not see the hidden lines and all the efforts.

另外,很高兴认识了很多友善和热情的中国人,特别是陪伴我们的校长,院长,副校长,李老师,阳老师,Jessica(在这里写下你们的名字,哈哈,感谢你们全程陪伴我们。)
